Room 504, Thursday After Classes

[intraspective]

After class found Ino laying sprawled out on her bed and resisting the urge just to fall asleep. It would totally screw over her regular schedule if she slept now and woke up at, like, one in the morning. Instead, she was trying to study the notebook Kabuto had given her.

She wasn’t retaining much though. Ino buried her head in her arms and sighed. Was it later yet?

Ino left the door open in hopes that someone would stop by and help keep her awake.

"If you were the one trying to fill the room with them, yeah, I can see that." He was leaning against the doorframe, now. "Hope Brooke likes goldfish."

"My mom runs a flowershop, I'm used to a lot of plants. You've got a fish?" Ino asked, grinning, "What's did you name it? And come in, come in." She gestured to the bed, "Sit down."

"I don't have a fish yet", he clarified, stepping in to oblige. "Gonna get one the next time I go to the mainland."

"Ah," Ino nodded, "well, that's cool. Going to do that soon?"

"Yeah, probably." He grinned. "Staff say I'm not allowed to have a shark. Think a dogfish counts?"

"I have no idea," Ino admitted cheerfully, "fish aren't something I've ever paid much attention to."

"They don't need much attention", he said, equally cheerfully, "that's the beauty of it. Food and clean water, that's all."

"You like things easy, then?" Ino grinned, "Sounds like a good match if that's the case. A boy and his fish."

He shrugged.

"I like things so if I have to take off, it's simple."

She gave him a considering look. "... are you in a situation that you might have to leave in a hurry?"

"Not here", he said quickly. "Not right now. But no one stays anywhere forever, right?"

"Mmmmm." Ino was still watching him thoughtfully, "Anything that's going to affect you here?"

"It shouldn't", he said quietly. "Not from what Isabel says. She's pretty convinced this place is safe."

[intraspective]

"Fandom is pretty secure," she said reassuringly, reaching out to touch him, "despite how it sounds with random invasions and stuff. Anything I can do to help?"

He smiled slightly down at her, but shook his head.

"Not so much. Thanks, though."

He could think of one thing, but distraction might not be what she meant.

"You need anything, you tell me, okay?" It wasn't exactly a request. Ino was pretty stubborn about things like this. "I mean it."

"If I need anything you can help with", he offered the amended promise, "you'll be the first to know."

"Good," and she'd keep an eye on him too, just in case. "You'd better not forget." Ino went to lean comfortably against him.

His arm went around her automatically, when she leaned.

"Trust me, I'm not expecting you to let me."

He'd grown up with Isabel, after all.

She grinned up at him. "That puts you ahead of most guys I know," Ino said, "who'd really rather I did forget things like that."

"Some guys just never learn what's inevitable", he said with a wry grin back.

That earned him a light kiss, and a grin. "Wise man."

He gave her a squeeze, smile turning just a little smug. "I try."

"Doing pretty good from my perspective," Ino said, "and an excellent job at keeping me awake and distracting me from how tired I am. That's totally appreciated."

That got her raised eyebrows.

"Why so tired?"
