Room 504, Sunday Morning

Ino was busy.

If you could call having cranked the music up with her door wide open and cross-legged on her bed reading busy.

(Ino was also inconsiderate of her neighbours and their sleeping in habits, yes.)

And reading was busy even if it was simply the same information she was pouring over in an attempt to glean new details from (so far: not working) and giving her something to look at while she struggled to come up with something to say to the e-mail she'd gotten on Tuesday. She needed to answer it, but it made her feel like crying, so she wasn't. Happy thoughts only. At least for the moment.

One thing, she thought with a sigh. All she wanted was one thing that was simple.

... she could go get a hot chocolate. That was about as simple as it got. Hmmm.

"Maybe I'm just bossy to you?" she tried.

"Why would you just be bossy to me?" he wondered. "Do I deserve special treatment?"

"Maybe it's that you've not deserved good treatment?" Ino mused, looking entertained.

"Ouch," he placed his hand over his heart. "You wound me. How can I go on living with you thinking so badly of me?"

"Shirtless," she said 'helpfully'. "And I like chocolate if you're really desperate to get into my good graces."

Shirtless was a given.

"Nah, I'll just eat it myself. It'll make me feel better too."

"It's got a few things in it that actually do make people feel better," she informed him. "Even if you're being a bear and not going to ever share with me. That's a sad thing."

"Maybe once you stop waking me up with weird music," he said thoughtfully. "I might just end up in a sharing mood."

"It's not weird! It's Japanese pop!"

Yes, that was the important thing there.

He raised an eyebrow at her. "Japanese pop? I thought you were from ninja world."

Ino blinked at him.

"And what's that got to do with me likin' this world's music?"

"It's just a weird place to end up," he admitted. "I don't think I've ever heard Japanese pop."

"It's not so weird," she said, toying with her hair. "Japanese is pretty much what I speak at home anyway."

"Seriously?" he asked, a bit surprised. "I guess it's not that weird, considering most people speak English when they're from all over the place."

Ino bobbed her head. "Kinda like that, yeah. Only for me it's Japanese. Bit weird comin' here and finding out that."

"So did you have to learn English here or is it known in your country as well?" Jake asked.

[intraspective]

"We're taught it in the Academy," she replied, shaking her head. "Though proficiency can vary, of course."

"Well, since I couldn't tell that means you're pretty good at it," he grinned at her. "I'm not sure I could do it, follow classes in another language. I hardly know Quileute."

"The younger you start, the better you learn generally," Ino said, smiling. "And I've been here three years."

"Right. An old pro," he frowned. "You're not leaving already, are you?"

[intraspective]

"Got a year left," Ino said, matching his frown. "And then, who knows?"

Look, he doesn't like the thought of people leaving and Didi was one of them. He disapproved.

"You don't know?" he asked, because he thought she'd been sure. "You're going to be ninja, right?"

"I am a ninja," she replied, but shrugged. "There's been a few issues. Things ain't quite so clear no more."

Yeah, Jake was good putting his foot in his mouth there.

"So you've got a year at least to figure it out," he said gently.

And another shrug.

"It'd be nice if it was easy," Ino admitted. "But nothing's been easy lately."
