Room 504, Sunday Morning

Ino was busy.

If you could call having cranked the music up with her door wide open and cross-legged on her bed reading busy.

(Ino was also inconsiderate of her neighbours and their sleeping in habits, yes.)

And reading was busy even if it was simply the same information she was pouring over in an attempt to glean new details from (so far: not working) and giving her something to look at while she struggled to come up with something to say to the e-mail she'd gotten on Tuesday. She needed to answer it, but it made her feel like crying, so she wasn't. Happy thoughts only. At least for the moment.

One thing, she thought with a sigh. All she wanted was one thing that was simple.

... she could go get a hot chocolate. That was about as simple as it got. Hmmm.

"Well, since I couldn't tell that means you're pretty good at it," he grinned at her. "I'm not sure I could do it, follow classes in another language. I hardly know Quileute."

"The younger you start, the better you learn generally," Ino said, smiling. "And I've been here three years."

"Right. An old pro," he frowned. "You're not leaving already, are you?"

"Got a year left," Ino said, matching his frown. "And then, who knows?"

Look, he doesn't like the thought of people leaving and Didi was one of them. He disapproved.

"You don't know?" he asked, because he thought she'd been sure. "You're going to be ninja, right?"

"I am a ninja," she replied, but shrugged. "There's been a few issues. Things ain't quite so clear no more."

Yeah, Jake was good putting his foot in his mouth there.

"So you've got a year at least to figure it out," he said gently.

[intraspective]

And another shrug.

"It'd be nice if it was easy," Ino admitted. "But nothing's been easy lately."

"No," he agreed, thinking back to that place and he made a face. "Hey, at least you're getting new students soon to break in."

"And you're not?" Ino asked, frowning at him. "Are you leaving?"

"Nah, you're stuck with me for another year," he grinned. "Maybe I'll get a little sib to annoy this time."

"I'm thinkin' 'bout that myself," she confessed. "It's fun, havin' a sib. You graduating next year or--?"

"No, I'm a gonna be a junior," he said. "So unless they kick me out, I'll have to hold the fort fort you."

"You're awfully tall for a wee underclassman," Ino informed him. "Have you considered shrinking?"

A beat.

"And you'd better! I'll be visitin' of course and stuff, I bet, but I just--I don't know. What're you going to do when you graduate?"

"It's not something I get to chose, I'm afraid," he said, either talking about his height or his graduation.

"I don't know. I always thought I'd become a mechanic. It's kind of hazy now."

"Things are stupid," she decided, with a sigh. "Why can't it all be simple?"

"Well, I think it might have to do with you being a ninja and me being a werewolf," he mused. "Those things seem to be complicated."

"At least they're also supposed to be high on the awesome scale?"

Jacob snorted. "Add our own awesomeness and we're too incredible to walk this earth," he joked.

"If that was true, then how's Fandom holdin' up?"

"It's only just able to hold up both our awesomeness," he said with a laugh.

"Hmmm," Ino hummed. "But what about other peoples awesome?"

"Doesn't come close," he said airily, with a cockiness that seemed to come natural.

Ino laughed.

"I like the way you think," she decided.

"I have a beautiful mind," he agreed, but he was laughing and shaking his head. "You know, next time you wake me up this early, you could at least provide pastries or something."
