Room 504, Saturday Evening

After a handwavy day of training that had left her tired and achy, but in a good mood, Ino was sprawled out on her bed, hair still damp from a shower, and making faces at the latest book she was attempting to read. For something that had the word 'basic' in its title... it wasn't very basic at all.

And the dictionary she was flipping through only helped so much. Geez. She considered writing to the author and complaining about false advertising.

Or maybe she'd just fling it at the wall. The thunk it made was very satisfying.

Kabuto had a book to return to Ino, and the open door was an invitation to cross the hall. The thunk of the book hitting the wall made him frown, though. "You should treat that with more respect," he admonished, standing in the doorway and not bothering to knock.

She made a face at him. "Whoever titled the book made a mistake. There's nothing basic about it at all." Ino gestured to the dictionary on her bed, "And this isn't helping me understand it any better. It deserved the wall treatment."

"Can I see?" Kabuto offered, setting his previously-borrowed book on Ino's desk and walking over to her. "I can probably understand it better."

Ino offered him the book. "It says basic on the cover though, so I thought I'd be alright." Stupid book.

"'Basic' can be subjective," Kabuto agreed mildly, taking the book from her and flipping through it. "...This isn't bad," he told her after skimming a few different places. "It is pretty basic, actually."

"I hate you so much for saying that." Ino told him grumpily, "Twenty letter words with definitions that consist of more crazy long words that I have to look up is not basic."

"What's troubling you?" Kabuto asked, genuinely not seeing where the problem was. "It's not that hard. We could go over it together, if you want..."

[intraspective]

Ino perked up slightly, "You don't mind? The other book made more sense when you talked it over too." She made another face, "I'm mostly having trouble with all the science-y stuff. The Academy doesn't cover much of that."

"You mean you enjoyed your quiet time?" Kabuto teased, sitting down beside her. "Which part would you like to start with? The beginning, or is there some part in particular you're interested in?"

[intraspective]

"Oh yes, having my nervous system messed with is loads of fun." Ino said dryly, shifting so they could both look at the book, "You're good at making this stuff make sense. Just after the Introduction is where I started not understanding things."

"Considering you ask for it so often, I'm not surprised to hear that." Kabuto moved closer to Ino, holding one side of the book and putting his other arm around her. "I have a lot more scientific training than you. Of course I'm good at making it make sense."

She leaned into him a bit more. Just to see the book better, of course. Really. "I don't ask for it." Of course she didn't. Because Ino would never try to get a reaction like that out of him. Not her. "You just irritate me so easily."

"You're so easy to irritate," Kabuto replied, totally-not-intentionally shifting his hand on Ino's hip so that he could tickle her side just a little.

Totally not intentional at all.

"So this is a little more in the uses of poison, instead of just 'this is where it came from', hm?"

Ino squirmed against him, trying not to giggle, "Stop that!" She batted at his hand. "Yeah, or that's what it sounded like anyway. It talked a lot about molecular biology too." Which she'd totally not understood.

"Which can be fun, actually," Kabuto admitted. "It's a puzzle that just needs to be solved. Once you find the key, everything falls into place." He was more interested in poking Ino. Not that he'd admit it.

"Why can't they explain it like that then?" Ino complained, slowly losing the battle not to laugh. Her sides were sensitive and he kept poking her.

"Stop it!" In retaliation she poked his side. Poke, poke, poke.

"Because that wouldn't be right," Kabuto told her in a very patient voice. "It has to be complicated, or else anyone would be able to do it." Kabuto twitched a little, but otherwise didn't react. He could pretend not to be ticklish when he gave it enough attention.

"...Are you trying to tickle me?" he asked disbelievingly, giving her a very false surprised look.

"What's wrong with everyone being able to do it?" Ino asked, poking him again.

"Would I do something like that?" Her innocent look was way, way better than his surprised one.

He also wasn't trying. That definitely made a difference. "You would. You're strange that way." He was impervious to her attempts. Really, he was. But she surely couldn't be!

There was poking from Kabuto, the book momentarily abandoned.

She really, really wasn't. And her giggles were coming in earnest now as she squirmed to try and avoid his poking.

And poke him at the same time of course. Duh.

"What's so strange," giggles over came her for a moment, "about me tickling you?" Her eyes danced with laughter, "You started it."

"What's strange is that you think it'll actually work," Kabuto explained wickedly, pressing his palm flat against Ino's side and sending a very controlled, light burst of chakra through it.

Okay that? Had Ino nearly dying with laughter as she tried instinctively to get away. She sorta failed at it though.

"Chakra's cheating!" She managed to say through her laughter.

"Is it?" Kabuto asked innocently, leaning back and giving her a moment to breathe. "I thought all's fair."

"This isn't war!" Ino told him, shoulders shaking with laughter. She was grateful for the moment's reprieve.

"Then it's the other one, is it?" Kabuto asked, raising an eyebrow. She did leave it wide open.
