Room 504, Saturday Evening

[intraspective]

After a handwavy day of training that had left her tired and achy, but in a good mood, Ino was sprawled out on her bed, hair still damp from a shower, and making faces at the latest book she was attempting to read. For something that had the word 'basic' in its title... it wasn't very basic at all.

And the dictionary she was flipping through only helped so much. Geez. She considered writing to the author and complaining about false advertising.

Or maybe she'd just fling it at the wall. The thunk it made was very satisfying.

"Hmm. Should I take that as a compliment?" Kabuto asked teasingly, reaching up to tug gently at Ino's ponytail holder.

[intraspective]

"If you want to," Ino let him pull her hair out of its holder, amusement in her eyes, "I think it's more that the warning came too late. I don't give up in the middle of something."

"Are we in the middle of something?" Kabuto asked, running his fingers through her hair. "I thought you weren't calling it that..."

[intraspective]

"I don't know what you're talking about," she said impishly, "I'm totally in the middle of a challenge."

He wasn't too bad at playing with hair, himself. Mmmm.

"Riiight..." Kabuto smiled, playing his fingers through her soft, blonde hair. He could do it to her, too. "I'm your challenge?"

[intraspective]

"Definitely." Ino told him, with a smile and letting her eyes fall half shut, "I don't like being bored."

"I'm not boring," Kabuto said confidently. "Nothing to worry about."

[intraspective]

One of her hands reached to play with his hair, "That's a good thing," she laughed softly, "you'd have to work at it for me to find you dull."

"That's good to know," Kabuto laughed, tugging her hair lightly. "I'll keep it in mind. Did you want to continue reading at another time...?"

[intraspective]

"I'd love to," her lips twitched, "I paid for the book after all, and there's still a lot that needs to be explained."

"All right. Just not right now, since you obviously aren't going to be able to focus on it." Kabuto smirked.

[intraspective]

She tugged at his hair in retaliation, "I could focus just fine." Ino said loftily, "I just choose not to."

"Right." Kabuto chuckled, dropping the book to the floor with a soft thud. "Whatever you say, Ino-san."

[intraspective]

Her eyes brightened with amusement, "Thought I wasn't supposed to treat books like that? Something about respect for them, so why do you get to do it?"

"I'm careful about it. I never drop it in a way that would make it land wrong." Kabuto? Yeah, he was a little weird.

[intraspective]

"You're so weird sometimes," Ino told him, almost fondly, "they don't have feelings."

"No, but they can be damaged. And books are harder to repair than something living." He was very matter-of-fact about it.

[intraspective]

That caught her interest, "Are the really?" Ino asked, "I would have thought it was the other way around?"

"Not for me." Kabuto shrugged. "Medical ninja and all that, I suppose."

[intraspective]

She leaned over to lightly kiss his cheek, "Makes sense now that you mention it. I just never thought of that before."

Kabuto smirked. "I can heal without a scar, but I can't mend a page without tape, or at least a crease. Does that mean I'm strange, that I don't like my books to have scars?"

[intraspective]

"You are strange," Ino said agreeably, "but all things considered that's one of the lesser strange things about you."

"I'm not that strange," Kabuto countered, pulling her right up against him and keeping his arms around her. "I know stranger."

[intraspective]

This was... really comfortable. Ino relaxed easily and rested her head on him, "I'm sure you do," she agreed, "considering who visited you for Parents Weekend and all."

"He's not strange," Kabuto insisted. "Sasori is much, much stranger."
