Room 504, Friday Early Afternoon

There was nothing quite like training all morning, taking a long hot shower, then collapsing onto your bed and flipping through gardening magazines and making notes.

And, you know, not thinking about what she had to do. That worked. Maybe if she just stayed in her room it’d all be okay for another day.

Luck ran in her family. Surely that meant this tactic would work. She'd keep her promise to A.J., but really, did it have to be today?

The tactic didn't account for someone knocking at the door, not quite sure at finding it closed.

Ino peeked at her door dubiously. A part of her considering the window as a viable method of escape. But that was cowardly, and Ino was many many things, but coward wasn't one of them.

"Come in," she said, still hoping it'd be someone else.

"Hey, Ino", he said, opening the door and stepping just inside. "You busy?"

She glanced at her magazines spread on her bed, then back at him. "Hey. Just planning for my garden," Ino said, tucking a bit of hair away from her face, "I'll have to start planting soon."

Michael nodded. "Spring and all. Should get warm soon."

"It's already warm enough during the day," she said, "has been for a while. It's the night though that it gets cold enough to kill the seedlings."

"Put sheets over them?" he suggested. "Keep the frost off."

[intraspective]

"That might work," Ino admitted, "but it's generally best to just go with the way nature does things. It's not like the plants I've picked will need a hothouse or anything so I'll just wait a bit."

"Fair enough", he agreed.

Ino looked down at her hands. Not sure what to do, or how to say it, or... or...

How did you break up with someone when you'd never formally said you were together, anyway?

She'd gone silent. And he didn't want to ask, but...

"Is everything OK?"

That would've made her roll her eyes--wasn't it obvious?--but Ino didn't.

She shrugged, hands clenching, and straightening her back and meeting his eyes. "I asked you for more time," she said, "on Sunday."

"You did", he remembered, looking back at her and not moving from his spot.

After coming back from the trip to the city for Cool class, Romeo went back up to the fifth floor and paused before Ino's door, next to his own. He hadn't really checked in with anyone since they got back from Paris, and it seemed like he should do so. If nothing else, Ino might want to know how his trip to Italy had gone. And he needed to compliment her on her skill in finding a perfect gun.

He tapped on her door.

She glanced up, looking at the door for a moment before shrugging. If she was lucky... "Come in!"

Romeo stepped in, ducking his head a little. "Good day," he said. "It felt like it had been a hundred years since I last spoke to you, and I realized it was."

That startled a giggle out of her and she smiled genuinely. "It has been, fancy that. How've you been?"

Romeo pretended to think. "Mostly quiet. Asleep, strangely enough. Though things picked up more than a bit in the last few days. And you?"

"Putting things back together," she said with a nonchalant shrug, "and deciding how to break some things down." That was about as far as she wanted to go into it. Distraction worked better when it didn't wind up back on the topic she was trying to avoid.

Romeo was puzzled by her first words, and would have asked about them, but the Italian distracted him, reminding him of one of the reasons he had stopped in to start with. //Mostly good, though with more public humiliation than I would like,// he answered. //Oh, and we are lucky Doom's plan worked. My own visit to my family was nothing but a waste of time.//

And she still thought it had been a stupid plan from the start, but she didn't say that.

He shrugged at the rest of what she said. Grazie. There wasn't much else to say, really. //What did you do with the rest of your time in 1899?//

That was enough information to make her drawn several conclusions that she found way way too amusing.

Ino grinned at him. //"Thank you! I learned a good bit of French as well, and stole a lot. Fine, upstanding citizens we are."//
