Room 504, Thursday Evening

Ino had whined at her dad until he'd sent her weapons catalogues, and getting a lengthy lecture on how she wasn't to take up anything that would have her neglect her other studies (ha, as if) and was sprawled out in her favourite jammies flipping idly through the magazines and pausing on a page that detailed some of the types of unbreakable wires they had.

Interesting, she admitted, making a note to go back and maybe get some more wire later, but really, she needed a weapon that was better for close range.

Humming idly along to Ikimono-gakari, she flipped the next page, and kicked her feet idly. It was totally a nice relaxing way to spend an evening. Dorky music and weapons—how better?

Yeah, that was getting raised eyebrows of the 'yeah, whatever' variety.

Ino blinked over her magazine (Rope specially treated to be resistant to fire jutsu! On sale now!) and eyed her. "Bad day?"

Triela's expression went from teasing to displeased. "Stupid class," she muttered loudly enough to hear.

"Oh?" Ino asked, tilting her head at her bed. "Come on in, sit down."

Triela let her weight drop onto the bed with a long, theatrical sigh. "Someone thought it would be a good idea to sign me up for modeling," she explained.

[intraspective]

Don't laugh, Ino. Don't laugh.

"Erm. For training?"

As her eyes danced with suppressed laughter.

Those eyes drew Triela's glare. "Go ahead and let it out," she snapped.

"No," Ino said, as innocent as anything. "I'm good. Come on, don't be grumpy."

"How can you say that?" Triela continued scowling. "It's awful."

[intraspective]

"Training can be awful," she agreed, nodding. And would titter later, but. "But don't you think that means you're learning stuff?"

"I'm not sure I'm learning anything worth knowing." She growled. "I know I'm supposed to be learning how to wear different sorts of clothes and fit into different places, but... how is this supposed to teach me that?"

"Because aggravation means you'll learn quicker to get it over with?"

Well. Ino tried.

"Except that I have to attend the entire class whether or not I've already learned the subject." That made things worse, too.

Ino lifted her shoulders slightly.

"Pretend it's a mission and you've got to get it done right the whole time?"

"Missions," Triela said snippily, "make sense."

[intraspective]

"Missions are whatever you're paid to do," she said airily. "They only make as much sense as the orders do."

Which was anything from a lot of sense to, well, none.

"Our missions always make sense. Sometimes they're stupid, but at least there's logic behind them."

Ino's lips twitched.

"All the logic you need is 'this is what you have to do'," she pointed out.

Triela snorted. "That's not logic. That's Conditioning." Which was why she was going to do the job, even if she didn't like it.

"I don't got no Conditioning," Ino answered. "And I do the job, even if it's dumb."

"Actually, that's one of the things I've learned here: everyone has conditioning." Triela shrugged loosely. "Not the same kind I have, of course, but... something similar."

"That's called 'culture'," Ino said dryly. "And 'tradition'."

"Whatever," Triela waved a hand almost dismissively. "It results in the same thing."

Ino tilted her head at that.

"But people can say no to culture and tradition."

Triela lifted an eyebrow ever so slightly. "When was the last time you did?"

Ino raised one eyebrow back at her.

"Does it matter?" she asked. "It's not a matter of actively defying things so much as being who you are anyway."
