Room 504, Saturday Night

Ino could sing just fine thank you very much even though Ichigo was a bit of an idiot about it and was proving that, this evening, but singing at the top of her lungs with the radio up and blaring, not caring that she didn’t know half the words to the songs, and dancing around in her room in her pyjamas.

With the door wide open. As you do.

What? She was having fun! Loudly.

Take that, Ichigo!

"That must suck," Hurley said with a frown.

Ino considered that.

"I guess that's just the difference in culture?"

"But if everyone just... goes around being mean?" Hurley said.

[intraspective]

"It's not so much as they go 'round being mean," she said, trying to figure out how to explain, "as that the line drawn for what's mean and what isn't is a bit different."

"...Oh, huh," Hurley said. "So they don't think it is mean? Huh."

"Not always," Ino said, frowning slightly. "I mean, there's jerks everywhere, but what's a jerk here, isn't always a jerk somewhere else, you know?"

Hurley nodded. He only sort of understood, though.

"Soooo... anything else new?"

[intraspective]

"I'm not talking ever again to Liir," she declared firmly.

"Wait, why not?" Hurley said. This seemed troubling.

"'Cause I wanted to know why he hadn't told me, his sister, 'bout him having a girlfriend, and he said that I hadn't asked, even though I think 'what's new' is specific enough for asking 'cause most people think that's rather up on the list of things to tell your important people. So then I got mad 'cause I didn't think that was fair, that I had to find out from radio, and he said I was being haughty and snide and I ought to get off my high horse and when I did I could talk to him. I said he was being just as bad as me and so... I'm not going to."

Hurley paused.

"Suddenly I feel like I better go tell Hoshi about me and Penelope," he said.

[intraspective]

"You sibling?" Ino said, having to fight a giggle at that. "If you want to. But Liir and I weren't assigned by the school, we chose it, so it's... "

"...something you'll reconcile soon?" Hurley hoped.

Ino looked at him for a long moment.

"...probably not."

Hurley frowned. "Oh. Sorry."

She grinned at him. "It'll fall out however it does. Don't worry 'bout it."

"Just... like people getting along, I guess," Hurley said.

"I know," she said, most quietly. "But sometimes it doesn't work out."

Hurley nodded. "You want some cookies? I could get some from my room."

"If you want to stick around and eat them, then sure," she said, smiling.

Hurley chuckled. "Hey, cookies are better shared, I say."

"They really are," she agreed, giggling.

Hurley held up a finger.

He left, and after a couple minutes, came back with a box of Oreo cookies.

"I don't have milk, but they're just as good without."

She beamed at him. "Water's all I got," she admitted, "but cookies rock no matter what."

He held out the box to Ino. "You ever had these before?" he asked.
