Room 504, Tuesday Evening

After work Ino had stopped by the weapons locker and inspected her things there. Satisfied that everything there was in good working order, she’d wandered back to her room, showered and wound up in her pajamas before sprawling out on her bed with that book on American History.

Because, seriously, she had to get some reading done, right? Right. She was just going to put her head down and close her eyes for a few moments first though. She wasn’t sleeping, geez. Honest.

He sniffed derisively. "I know," he grumbled as he shifted a little bit closer to her.

Her fingers tightened in the fabric of the shirt. "Sorry."

But he so wasn't getting it back.

Ichigo snorted and glanced at her. "You so are not," he accused.

She peeked through her hair at him. "Maybe a bit."

He eyed her back, an eyebrow arched. "Very, very deep down?" he guessed.

"Somewhere, maybe," she conceded.

"Under the bed?" he asked, suppressing a grin.

"Maybe buried out in my garden," she mused, relaxing slightly, though she was still all curled in on herself.

"You've been using it as compost, haven't you? That explains where those plants are growing so much," he reasoned, mostly talking out of his ass now.

She was glancing at him a lot more now. "Have you even seen my plants?"

"No," he said slowly, trying to keep a straight face. "Your point?"

"Then you don't know how well they're growing," she pointed out.

"Pffffffffft, now you're just being logic," he dismissed her argument and he lowered his hand, his fingers brushing over her wrist.

She was just going to tighten her fingers in his shirt more.

"I can be sometimes," she told him.

"Well... Quit it," he told her, rubbing his thumb over the back of her hand.

"What if I don't want to?" she asked, relaxing a bit more.

"I might have to take you to the clinic to make sure you weren't replaced by a podperson," Ichigo teased her.

"Am a clinic person," she insisted. "Don't need to go."

He snorted. "Doctors aren't supposed to diagnose themselves," he pointed out.

"Not a doctor," she said loftily. "Medic-nin. Get your terminology right."

Though medic-nin weren't supposed to diagnose themselves either. Small details.

He rolled his eyes, determined not to get distracted. "It still counts, no matter what you call yourself."

"Why would I be a podperson?"

"Because you're being logical," he said, the 'duh' was implied and he tugged a little on her hand.

She tugged back, but let him see her smile.

"Doesn't mean I'm a podperson," she insisted.

"I'm not entirely convinced," he insisted and he might just have returned her smile before he studied her more seriously.
