Land Shark Living Room, Sunday Evening

... Land Shark, Ino decided as she found herself a bottle of water and some chips and flopped down on the couch, was an okay cabin name.

She wasn't quite sure what it was but that was alright. Guessing from the rest of the cabins, Ino was figuring on some sort of monster but—well. Maybe the shark their cabin was named after was magic? Which was why it could go on land? Did it even matter?

Probably not, so long as it didn't attack them because they'd used its name.

It was something to idly consider anyway as she pulled her feet up under her and pulled out one of her notebooks as she made herself comfortable in her home away from the dorms for the next few weeks.

Besides, the living room was way better for checking out how many of her cabinmates would be social. She liked social!

"So untrusting," she tsked. "What did I ever do to deserve that?"

[furnaceface]

//So far, yer mean?//

In spite of Jono being... well, Jono, his tone was actually fairly light.

[intraspective]

"Exactly," she said, with an amused sniff. "I can be perfectly lovely and nice and all of that."

[furnaceface]

//Well, that's wholly reassuring, then.//

There was a moment's pause, while Jono looked up at her with his closest approximation to a grin lingering around the corners of his eyes.

//I don't know that I can, though.//

[intraspective]

"That's alright," she assured him. "I can deal with grumpy boys."

Normally by getting grumpy right back at them, yep.

[furnaceface]

//Is that so?// Jono's fingers drifted away from the strings of his guitar after a moment, and he contended himself to just ooze back into his seat and stare up at the ceiling. //Well, then I suppose I'll have to put special effort into being particularly difficult, won't I?//

[intraspective]

"Well that's no fun," she retorted, lifting her notebook. "See if I enjoy your music then."

Ino was kidding. Mostly.

[furnaceface]

That earned a bemused glance from Jonothon before he returned his attention upward.

//You'd dislike my music on account of my being a stubborn bastard?//

[intraspective]

"Nooo," she said, "I'd dislike you being a stubborn ass 'cause then my own stubbornness would mean I wouldn't be able sing along without losing to you."

... Yeah, that made sense to her.

[furnaceface]

//Losing to me?// Jono was once again staring at her, yes. //This is a summer camp cabin sing-along scenario, luv. Not American Idol.//

American Idol featuring absolutely nobody living in this cabin who was actually from America, yes.

[intraspective]

"I don't mean losin' in singing."

Because that made so much sense?

"I mean, if I were singing 'long that'd mean I was enjoying myself and that'd mean you and your bastardness would've won."

Yeah. Er. Who said she had to make sense anyway?

[furnaceface]

Ooooh. It was all so clear, now, when put in terms that a cranky, stubborn ass like Jono could parse.

//I suppose I would have to take that as a challenge of my own, then,// he mused. //What sort of music do you find irresistible?//

That happy Japanese stuff, wasn't it?

[intraspective]

Her eyebrows rose sharply.

"If you manage to play my bippy Japanese stuff passably well on your guitar, I will be impressed."

Because, uh. Seriously.

[furnaceface]

//That sounds like a challenge, luv.//

And you better believe he was up for any challenge that had anything to do with his guitar, yes.

[intraspective]

Ino smiled sunnily at him.

"If it's a proper challenge then it needs terms," she pointed out.

[furnaceface]

//And do you have any in mind, exactly?//

Jono suspected that the best he'd be able to come up with would be the ever popular, 'if I can play it, you have to sing.'

[intraspective]

"I dunno," she said thoughtfully. "There'd need to be a prize for you, if you win. And something for me if you lose."

No, really?

"Don't know what you'd got that I'd want done as a favour or what not, though."

[furnaceface]

//And vice versa,// Jono agreed, looking back toward the ceiling. //I've got music, and books. And video games. All of th'sort of things that you'd expect from somebody like me, I suppose. For all th'good that does if yer not interested in any of it, granted.//

[intraspective]

"You could teach me something if you lose," she suggested impishly. "And I could... do the same, if you won?"

[furnaceface]

//Alright then,// Jono replied, wrapping one arm around his guitar while he leaned forward, his interest piqued. //And what exactly do you have that you can teach me?//

[intraspective]

"First aid," she said promptly. "Gardening. Hair braiding. Meditation. Uh--weapons, I suppose. How to walk silently. Japanese."

Ino just kinda shrugged at him.

[furnaceface]

//I'm taking first aid this term as a workshop anyhow,// Jono noted. //And I don't think I'm liable to grow out enough hair t'braid it, either.//

He took a moment to consider this some more, and then nodded. //Meditation?//

[intraspective]

"I can do meditation, sure," she said, lifting her shoulders in another shrug at the rest of his words. "But what to I get if you fail?"

[furnaceface]

//I...// Well, this was a challenge. //I can teach yer how to play guitar, I suppose. Or just buy you things from Groovy Tunes. I don't think there'd be any opportunity for me to show yer how to ride a motorbike around here, though...//

For all that Jono was a burning freak of nature, he was actually pretty normal, when you boiled it all down.

//Try me.//

Ino tugged at her hair. "We could go over to the mainland for the motorbike lessons," she said, mildly hopeful.

Yes, Jono. Teach a girl who'd never driven so much as a bumper car to ride a motorbike. That'd go swimmingly.
