Room 504, Thursday Daytime

[intraspective]

There was a rather ominous level of rage emanating from room 504 today.

After being carried back to the dorms, Ino had slept in fits and starts, too wound up to ever really rest, and eventually gave up entirely.

A few hours later, Ino was sitting cross-legged on her floor, in one of Kabuto’s shirts and not much else (which, really, his shirts were more than long enough to be pajamas on her, come on) and fuming.

And considering how to burn the poster bits. Should she do it one piece at a time? Or all at once?

Ino would be good for tonight, and the boy hunting.

For now though—the poster bits were going to die by fire.

As soon as she figured out which way would be the most satisfying.

This time he was prepared and he blocked the kick, quickly reaching to grab hold of her ankle and pull her down too. "Stop it!"

She went down, not in the right frame of mind to have been paying attention to the chance that he might, you know, not just let her kick him.

"Fine," he let go of her ankle and pushed to his feet. "You may have a point, Ino. I don't get this world enough yet to know, but just getting pissed off and deciding you hate anyone who doesn't agree with you isn't going to make anyone want to listen to you."

She shrugged. "Whatever," Ino said. "It's not like I'm much of a somebody to many people anyway, so if they don't listen... it's not a new issue."

"I'd listen if you weren't shouting so damn much," Ichigo grumbled. Or you know, kicking him. He was fairly used to the abuse, though.

She just shrugged again. "I'm used to it."

Oh great, he was almost starting to feel bad for shouting now. Almost. "I don't necessarily think you're wrong."

"I'm not wrong," she said. "I know minds."

Personally he was better with the spirits. "Yeah. And what do you know about them?" he challenged.

"What they're doing for fun," Ino said slowly, getting up and meeting his eyes. "My family makes a living out of, back home. Taking over peoples bodies, using them against each other, pretending to be them and not just be 'someone else in their body'. We know about the chemical differences between male and female brains, old and young, how diets and levels of activity affect the way you think. In taking over someone else's body with your mind you're entering hostile territory--it's not a game. It's not safe. It's not a lark."

"You're in someone else's body," she said. "You're both you, and not you because that body doesn't understand your mind, and your mind doesn't understand that body. It's not a simple thing, a flick of a switch, or anything like that. All it takes is one hormone being at a different level from what you're used to in your own body--and then it's dangerous. The chemicals in your brain alter the way you think, and everybody is different--because we're all different--and that's not something that should be played with."

The cocky grin faded as he considered her, slowly processing what she was saying. It was as if every day that passed he became more thankful to Rukia for preparing him for this kind of weird shit. "Sounds like a risky skill to have," he remarked.

"It's in my blood," she said. "Like blonde hair and blue eyes--it breeds true. You don't ignore a skill like that."

"No," he agreed, leaning back against the desk. "So do all ninjas from your world have skills like that or is it just your family?"

[intraspective]

"The Clans mostly do," she said. "But a lot of first and second generation shinobi don't. It takes time for tendencies to develop, and then you've got to deliberately cultivate the skills..."

"So it's more of a mix of skills and genes?" he wondered.

[intraspective]

"It starts out, you know, as just a skill," Ino explained. "But as it gets passed down through the generations it becomes more and more a matter of genes. What I can do, no other family back home can do."

Ichigo decided that he didn't know nearly enough about genes. "That would make your family pretty renowned."

[intraspective]

That got a bit of a shrug. "There's a lot of skills," Ino said. "One of my teammates can control his shadow and use it to affect others."

That more sounded like a skill a shinigami or even a hollow would have than a human. "Sounds like a dangerous place to piss people off."

Another shrug. "We live in a village of ninja," she pointed out. "Danger sort of follows."

He grinned. "And you scare most of them?" he teased.

Ino flushed a bit. "Those in my class at least?"

"I'm not surprised," he teased, leaning forward a little.

She took a swing at him and, really, if he didn't expect that then he deserved to get hit.

"Whatever!"

Ichigo laughed, blocking the hit and he danced back from the desk and from Ino. "You're too easily riled up," he informed her.
