Room 504, Sunday Late Evening

It had been a day spent dealing with two of four of the children, and Ino was pretty sure she’d gotten the easy two. Isae had wanted to window shop, and Ken had been pleased enough to walk with them while she asked questions about his classes. Then she and Ken had gone to Fight Club.

“Isae, honey, we’re back,” Ino said, pushing the door open. “Have you seen Masaki, or Masaru around yet?”

“Nuh huh,” Isae said, while Ken took a seat on the floor. “Otousan’s probably going to be back soon. Masaki’s a baby and’ll need sleep! I don’t need sleep yet, Okaasan. Honest!”

"Sleepyhead," Ken said, tugging at Masaki's hair. "You should put your jammies on."

"You're very awesome," Ichigo said reassuringly, stroking Isae's hair. "So awesome that you don't need a boyfriend." That worked, right?

"She's taught Otousan to be a shini," he said. "And sometimes she comes visit and they argue a lot, but that's okay cause you argue a lot too, just like I argue with Ken. It's good to argue, as long as you make up later."

Masaki shook her head as she cuddled against Ken's side. "Not tired!"

"It's still time for getting jammified," Ken said reasonably, playing with her hair. "How about if I change too?"

She leaned against him, glancing up. "I said I'd be his girlfriend for a while, Otousan," Isae said. "How long is a while?"

"Good boy," she said, hugging him again. "And that's exactly right, fighting is totally okay as long as you remember to make it up after. Do Aunt Rukia and I get along?"

Masaki considered Ken's offer and then nodded. "Okay, but I want a story."

"Well, a while was probably just fifteen minutes or so," Ichigo reasoned, gladly taking advantage of this. "So you're free now."

Masaru was being very patient really, hugging Ino back and maybe he was just a little tired too. "Mmmmmm, but Otousan says it's bad news 'cos then he gets to suffer." He frowned. "I don't know why."

She grinned. "Because it's a girl thing, sweetie. Making daddy suffer."

Ino considered him. "How 'bout we get you into jammies, so you're more comfy, yeah?"

"Okaasan can tell a story!" Ken said, wriggling off the bed to get their jammies. "About ninja!"

"Okay," Isae said, fighting a yawn. "But I'm still awesome, right?"

"Girls are weird," Masaru declared and Masaki's yawn must have been infectious as he stifled one of his own. "Okay." Not that he was moving.

"You are always awesome," Ichigo grinned and having heard at least that part of Ino's conversation he said, "You should get into your jammies too." He wouldn't mind getting into his own either.

Masaki however was bouncing with some new found excitement. "Ninja stories, Okaasan!"

Ken had found his jammies and was scrambling into them before carrying Masaki's over to the bed.

"You've got to get changed first," he reminded her.

"I'm not sleepy, Otousan," Isae said sulkily. "I'm not a baby."

"Jammies and then ninja stories," Ino told the room, ruffling Masaki's hair with one hand. "But no stories 'till everyone's changed and under the blankets."

She gently started tugging Masaru out of his shirt. "Come on, big boy. Time to get changed."

"I know you're not, that's why you've got to give the right example," Ichigo told her gently. "You can do that, right?"

"Can it be a story with monsters?" Masaru asked as he wriggled to help Ino get the shirt off. Not that it was entirely helpful.

Masaki pouted at Ken, but she wanted the story so she was already wrestling her shirt to try and get it over her head.

It wasn’t much help, no—but it was cute.

“How about a story about a demon fox?” Ino said, getting the shirt off. “Have I told you guys that one lately? Isae, go get changed. Listen to your Otousan. You’re a doll, Ken. Masaki, no pouting, you don’t want your face to freeze like that, do you? Masaru—pants.”

Ino was kinda rocking the whole orders thing. “Ichigo, go get changed.” It was obvious she was going to be the last one into her jammies.

Ken made a bit of a face, but supposed he ought to be glad that Okaasan wasn’t bossing him around. “Come on,” he said, helping Masaki get out of her clothing and into her nightgown. “It’s not so bad, right?”

“Fiiiiiine,” Isae said, sighing and wriggling out of Ichigo’s grasp to grab her jammies and flee to the bathroom. “No peeking!”
